WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE?

The original product was developed for the proper care, maintenance and repair of expensive Italian leather chairs and sofas (it is also great on all of your other leather items).  It contains many special ingredients including a refined lanolin (for conditioning) and a breathable carnauba wax that shines, protects and restores the natural finish without buffing or residue.
 
The "New and Improved" formula looks more like a white paste and smells like a regular shoe polish.  The real Leather Mate is more yellowish-brown in color and has a natural tree smell (carnauba wax and refined pine oil extract).  The "new" product has limited results compared to the original.

AREN'T ALL LEATHER CARE PRODUCTS BASICALLY THE SAME?

Absolutely not!  Most leather care products are created backwards.  They attempt to find a use for surplus ingredients or manufacturing byproducts rather than what is actually best for the leather.

Beeswax, neatsfoot oil and paraffin wax are such examples.  They are the byproduct of other processes.  And while they provide some waterproofing qualities, they are not ideal for your leather since they do not clean or condition and leave an oily or sticky residue.

The correct way to develop a leather care product is to envision the purpose and desired results of your product and then research and develop find the best ingredients to achieve that.  This is how Leather Mate was developed.

HOW DOES IT RESTORE COLOR WITHOUT COLOR?

Due to the highly absorbent nature of the lanolin and other conditioning agents, as they soak in they allow the natural dyes in the leather to move to these damaged areas. 

The result is often miraculous and beyond all expectations.  The color match is perfect since it is using the actual color of the leather itself.  This cannot occur with thicker waxier products (like paraffin or beeswax) as they do not penetrate into the leather.
